Informed Opinions, Personal Freedom, and Frivolity

Welcome to my website. If you like, you can skip to my woefully small, but hopefully, growing collection of fan fiction.

Also, take a look at my Politcal Rant Page.

Want to find out what I'm up to? Visit Rants, Musings, and Other Oddities. That is, assuming I update my journal more often than I update my web page.

When someone told me that I could put up a Web page where I could spout my opinions to the world at large, I thought--COOL!!! If you spend enough time with me, you'll find I have an opinion on just about everything. But in my happy little world there is room for everyone to speak their own mind. As long as we respect one another's opinions, we can all get along just fine. There is definitely room in the world for healthy discussion and debate.

My Opinions on Music and Books

Music is an essential part of my life. Here are some of the artists I can't live without. Listen to their music. Visit their web sites. Just don't forget to come back here!

* The Official Dave Matthews Band Website Multi-layered, sensual music!
* Norah Jones-Music Blues with a Texas-twist! She's the greatest!
* Sarah Mclachlan.com She's got a voice like no one else!
* ENIGMA Dark and powerful, rich and absorbing!
* Santana.com Carlos Santana's influential guitar work is unmistakable. He can make his instrument sing!

Also check out actor and musician Anthony Stewart Head.

I also spend a lot of my time reading (and by that I mean real, actual books). Here are some of the books and authors I like.

William Shakespeare is one of the most widely read and quoted authors in the English language. Shakespeare Online is a good place for "beginners" to introduce themselves to the author who has influenced writing for the past 400 years. The site includes analysis of the Bard's plays and most of his poetry, as well as essays about Shakespeare's works and his life and times.

Other authors to check out:

For a modern look at age-old philosophical concepts, check out this book: The Simpsons and Philosophy-The D'oh of Homer. It's a surprisingly serious look at philosophical concepts subtly addressed in the long-running animated comedy.

For another look at philosophies represented on TV, go to All Things Philosophical on BtVS and AtS. Joss Whedon created two smart, engaging TV series in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Angel the Series". If you're not familiar with Joss' amazing work, you definitely need to check these out. In book form, look for Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Philosophy. With essays on topics such as feminism in the buffy universe, rationalilty and science, ethics, and religion and politics, this is an interesting read for the armchair philosopher.

Whedon also created the short-lived, but truly wonderful series: "Firefly". The entire "Firefly" has been released on DVD, and according to The Hollywood Reporter, the crew of Serenity will make the jump to the big screen under Universal Pictures. Projected release date for the movie is sometime in 2005. Keep an eye on FIREFLYFANS.NET for continuing updates.
